Portola is also developing novel JAK3-specific and JAK3/1 inhibitors for chronic autoimmune indications, such as prophylaxis of organ rejection in patients receiving liver, kidney or heart transplants. JAK3 is critical to immune system activation and is an attractive target because its expression is limited to key cells in the immune system. Portola’s goal is to differentiate from other JAK programs in development by identifying compounds with selectivity over JAK2 (a cause of neutropenia and anemia). This program is in preclinical development.
