PRT061103: Thromboxane Receptor Antagonist

Due to severe adverse reactions, certain patients with major cardiovascular disease are unable to benefit from aspirin’s important cardiovascular benefits. Our i.v. and oral thromboxane receptor antagonist, PRT061103, is designed to provide the same cardiovascular benefit of aspirin, but without these limiting side effects.

Both aspirin and PRT061103 provide cardio-protective benefit through blockade of the platelet thromboxane receptor. However, aspirin also interferes with the synthesis of key anti-inflammatory mediators and protectors of the gastrointestinal lining. By providing direct and selective blockade of the platelet thromboxane receptor, PRT061103 avoids interfering with these mechanisms and gives an option for these patients.
