Thrombosis and autoimmune/inflammatory diseases represent two of the largest areas of innovation and scientific interest. Portola has a robust pipeline of proprietary and partnered novel therapeutics that target these areas of unmet medical need.

Thrombosis, or the process of formation of a blood clot, is involved in many diseases, including heart attack and stroke, and represents an extremely large market. Portola’s team has deep experience in drug discovery, development and commercialization of antithrombotics, which include anticoagulants and antiplatelets.

In inflammation, Portola’s broad chemistry capability has led to the discovery of potent, oral specific inhibitors of Spleen Tyrosine Kinase (Syk) and Janus Kinase (JAK), as well as, dual inhibitors of Syk and JAK. Portola’s goal is to develop best-in-class oral, anti-inflammatory agents that will significantly improve patient care. In partnership with Biogen Idec, Portola is developing ,PRT062608, a highly selective, novel oral Syk inhibitors for the treatment of various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
